Printing at the right size
Every sheet is drawn in millimetres, so the browser prints it at true physical scale. The one setting that breaks that is your printer dialog: choose 100% scale and turn off "fit to page". Each sheet can include a 25.4 mm calibration square: if that square measures an inch, everything else on the page is correct.
Spacing is set in millimetres regardless of paper size, so 5 mm squares are 5 mm on A4 and on Letter. The printing guide covers scale, margins and which paper sizes are available.
Why generate paper instead of buying it
Printed pads only come in a few standard spacings. If you need 7 mm isometric, 30 mm hexes, or a staff size that suits a student's handwriting, generating the sheet is faster than finding it: and you can reprint the same settings indefinitely. Your settings live in the page URL, so a bookmark reproduces the exact sheet.
