About graph paper in any grid size
Graph paper is only useful if the squares are the size you expect. This generator builds a true-to-scale grid at any spacing: 5 mm quad ruled for maths and plotting, 4 squares per inch for engineering habits, or 2 mm if you need a dense plot. Major lines every fifth square give you the fast counting that makes quad paper worth using in the first place.
Choosing a size
Set spacing to 5 mm and leave "bold line every" at 5 for the standard quad-ruled sheet most people picture. Set spacing to 6.35 mm for a quarter-inch grid, or 12.7 mm for half-inch squares that are easier to write in.

How do I make sure it prints at the right size?
Print at 100% scale, with "Fit to page" turned off, and check the calibration square on the sheet. If the square measures 25.4 mm, every other dimension is correct too.
What spacing should I use for maths or plotting?
5 mm is the usual quad-ruled grid. For plotting functions where you need finer resolution, 2 mm is workable; for handwriting, 6.35 mm or larger is more comfortable.
Is graph paper the same as grid paper?
Yes. Graph paper, grid paper, quad paper and quad-ruled paper all mean a sheet of evenly spaced squares. "Quad ruled" usually means four squares to the inch, and "engineering paper" is a variant with bold major squares and fine subdivisions, traditionally on green paper.
Does graph paper come in different sizes?
In two ways: the sheet and the square. Sheets come in Letter, A4 and larger; squares are commonly 4 or 5 per inch in the US and 5 mm or 1 cm elsewhere. With a 12 mm margin, a Letter sheet holds 30 × 40 quarter-inch squares or 38 × 51 at 5 mm, and an A4 sheet 37 × 54 at 5 mm.
Is graph paper in cm?
Metric graph paper is usually 5 mm squares with a bold line every 1 cm or every 5 squares, and 1 cm squares for younger students. US graph paper is usually in inches: 4 or 5 squares per inch. This generator does both, set by the spacing field.
Can I get inch-based squares?
Yes. Set spacing to 6.35 mm for a quarter inch, 12.7 mm for half an inch, or 25.4 mm for one-inch squares. The paper size does not have to match the unit system.
